My birth started in motion,
A series of events,
That have led me to this moment,
The year was 1975,
At the height of winter,
Just after a new year had begun,
Gratefully I acknowledge,
The sheer power my parents gave me, in that moment,
That first they said:
“We will call him, Sender”
My name is at the core of who I am,
A Yiddish name,
Born of Alexander,
The name of Kings of Scotland, Poland and Yugoslavia,
I grew up a challenged boy,
My soul torn in different directions,
Blessed with a beautiful mind,
At every step,
Despite the curse,
Choosing life,
Yet now,
I embrace my name in a way I could not,
Had I not experienced an emotional death,
Only to discover rebirth of self,
Out of sheer agony and pain,
I am Sender,
And I was reborn,
Today.
