China Dolls

China dolls,
Abounding,
I see them with their painted faces,
Their glossy lips,
And their halfhearted smiles,
Hiding behind paint,
But what,
What is lurking underneath the cosmetic mask,
Fear, loathing, self doubt,
Confidence?
I wonder,
Having seen so many this morning,
On the way to work,
Just how fragile the hold is,
On what is real,
Important.

China dolls equal young girls with lots of make up.
