History has a unique position in humanity, precariously perched as a guide, a beacon and also an excuse. Funny you might say, an excuse, but think about it and you’ll see, an excuse of ridiculous proportions.
When Hitler rose to power certainly not our greatest hour, we stood by for a while to see. While building outlawed armies, reclaiming treaty lost land and shipping Jews out of his Aryan land the rich tapestry of history was used to incite the people. He used history as a weapon more powerful than the atomic bomb for his seething hatred became full only in his propagandas success to win German’s hearts and minds. History was a great source of power and he wielded it as if it was his own.
He spoke of the rise of the Third Reich with great fervour and precise ammunition as he claimed it was his mission to reclaim the greatness of the Fatherland. Behind his rhetoric, the Aryan rants he assured his people of histories favour.
That with time all things would come to pass and that history would shine on the Third Reich for a thousand years. The world now rejoices that his maniacal rants were just that and further that history bears witness to the horror of that, one of the darkest chapters in our history. He invoked the name of God to champion his brutal goal.
History is now knocking again, loudly and distinctly on the door of humanities conscience and again is being used as a reference of justification for our current hostilities.
Around Baghdad in the ravaged country of Iraq, Saddam beams out his message to all who will listen This tyrant in the same vane as Hitler, uses history and God as uplifting evidence of the righteousness of his cause. So I wonder - Am I the only one that sees?
The American sanctioned despot, once friend, now enemy, is using the same tactics Hitler did. Calling for the destruction of the invader as God instructed, topple the infidel and God will reward you: The empty words he uses now, the timing is suspect. Saddam only knows one God: Himself!
But it is not only Saddam debasing God. No, our friends to the south are just as guilty. Bush also uses God and history to justify his actions.
History should not be used as a tool and God is not rhetoric, one sheds lights on our current state, the other light to guide us.

Choose - Live or Die
10 minutes to midnight,
what will happen when the clock strikes twelve,
will Saddam’s maniacal Cinderella tale come to an end,
on the screen I just saw,
the B – 52’s getting ready,
on the runway,
fueled,
Is it time to go?
8 minutes to midnight,
is it time for blanket bombing to begin?
7 minutes to midnight,
at least in Baghdad;
the coalition of the willing,
about to drop bombs,
defense contractors pockets filling,
6 minutes now,
what are we to think?
5 minutes,
I’d really like a drink,
My mind wandering,
I’d really like to know,
Are the B – 52’s just for show,
Ask the Vietnamese,
They’ll tell us true,
4 minutes now,
oil fires in Basra await,
3 minutes,
surrender or fight,
2 minutes,
expedition in Iraq two hours ago,
12 hours early,
1 minute:
Choose –
Live or die?

You(My 31)
If only we could see each other from the perspective of the other,
oh that you would see the very picture and personification of love
contained in the view that is your inner shine and your outer radiance.
From within your soul commands the greatest attention as it emanates, fresh:
Imagine the taste of strawberries,
the smell of freshly cut grass,
the look of a French masterpiece
and the feel of love as understood by a child:
This is the impact of your souls amazing shine.
One might think that this is enough to explain
yet this is merely a scratching of the inner surface
while the exterior also delights and intoxicates.
From the tip of your gorgeous toes
to the ends of your magically blonde hair,
a new picture of a package rare emerges.
As Doisneau captured lovers in the city of lights
with the feel of love caught in single images,
yours is much more than a thousand words,
with the richness of chocolate, milky,
the elegance of truffles,
and the rarity of Fugu.
Your beauty is the realization of every artists desire.
Van Gogh had sunflowers and starry nights,
da Vinci his Mona Lisa,
the Group of Seven the gracious Canadian landscape
and Fellini his films,
But I know a joy they never did –
For I know love as truth, innocence, beauty and light –
Charmaine,
a muse like none other and these words are but an attempt to seize the essence
that I am fortunate enough to know –
Love,
perfectly imperfect,
by divine design,
I know you and now my life,
Shines,
As you!

Happy Independence Day
To any and all Americans that read me;
I wish you the happiest of Independence Days. As one of my favorite lines says; "don't forget what you're celebrating, and that's the fact that a bunch of slave-owning, aristocratic, white males didn't want to pay their taxes."
In that spirit I hope that you all take at least a piece of this day to reflect on the past and to first conceive of and then create a better future.

Prescription for a TRUE generation (NEW)
A one time late night infomercial Diva used to say; “Stop the insanity!” Of course I must agree. Yet before any meaningful progress can be made stopping the insanity we must identify its very roots. Its no accident that I chose those words from Susan Powter, as they came to me via one of the very tools of distraction which must clearly be seen as one of the root problems we as a society face.
Each day, with as little effort as a touch of your finger a screen lights up – Sometimes in black and white, sometimes in colour – Almost always a distraction with relatively few exceptions save those nuggets of wisdom – Jewels of education that seek to inform and incite. The rest of the time your children and mine sit in front of a screen which often times has become a very dangerous surrogate parent.
For hours on end, care of the stupefying technological advance of the last century, our children sit before the television bombarded by images they can’t possibly understand: Perfectly crafted messages inspiring a new breed of consumption. Confronted by sex and drugs at every turn is it any wonder that our children are having children.
By giving the television this kind of dominion over your children and relegating yourself to third tier caregiver why are you surprised when your 13 year old son or daughter (in the brief time away from TV) are mimicking the things they see? Pregnant? Drunk? High? Violent or dead?
This started long ago, when you put your child down to watch Sesame Street or Romper Room, Barney or the Teletubbies to buy you a few minutes so you could do something else. You teach them that the TV is their friend in essence. One that would never leave them alone – Unlike you!
Now see, this wouldn’t be so bad if from your office now that your child is off at school you didn’t blame the television for the ways your child has developed. Every time the principal calls to let you know they’ve found a gun in their locker, or were in a fight, or were stoned – Only then after letting your child’s development come at the flick of a remote for the most important years of their mental growth do you try to intervene. Too late! You’ve lost that battle.
So now that your child is getting older and you sense the need to get involved you try to analyze, to get inside your child’s head so once again you relegate that duty to a doctor, a shrink, a head doctor, a psychiatrist or psychologist and your not at all surprised when the doctor says it’s A.D.D. or obsessive compulsive disorder, manic depression or any other gamut of mental diagnosis that could be. But you are assured that there are dozens of ways to aid your child – Therapy or Medication. Therapy is a good start, at least there’s some talking involved, but, more often than not, the children, your children, fall into another distraction – The medication trap. The doctor says Prozac or Paxil and you agree, Luvox or Cylexa and you ask if the doctors sure – Perhaps Zoloft or Xanax they suggest while inside your mind you curse professing you did your best.
But did you?
It seems that the parental role has been diminished by distracted parents creating distracted kids who pay the price and I’m here to say that price is too high and the suffering must stop: Collectively. So forget the television for a moment its not its producers fault – Forget about schools and doctors and all the other distractions paying careful attention to this prescriptions for action to take back a true generation.
From birth, do you remember the first time you locked eyes with your child? That little boy or girl is like a sponge waiting for the water of life that you will give it. Your child will learn to speak, to read, to write – What will you do with them tonight? Perhaps one show, but then no more, show them a book which will open the door. Embrace your child’s passion and give them a way to celebrate each day. Teach them to love, learning to decipher relative truth, this is the way to save our youth.
Show them love, caring and support and let them know your there for them. Teach them to ask question, to be as inquisitive as they were when your eyes met their the first time. Let them know that failure and that its okay but its important to get back up and face the day.
Read with them, write with them, laugh with them, cry with them and make sure you play too. Be a parent and a friend; Parent first, friend next.
We, this generation, gathered here today, if we can ease the distraction and be the parents we’re all capable of being with this prescription a new generation we’ll see: True!

Fit to Print
What’s the story, all the news that’s fit to print, save that now so few of us seem to pay attention to the wholesale value of words and what they truly mean, let alone read, in this age of television. In days gone by long ago, words came from storytellers, first spoken through a glorious oral tradition to let us know of our past and where we came from. Soon, the spoken word gave way to the written word giving a freedom of conscience and consideration that the spoken never did, as from behind closed doors we could choose in dimly lit rooms whether to consume tawdry tales of the Marquis or moral dilemmas from Voltaire, Choice; Where should our minds advance? As technology advanced and the industrial revolution gave birth and rise to the marvels of invention again our focus changed, albeit temporarily to radio – The magic of invisible waves renewing and invigorating the spirit of the oral tradition. Families sat in rooms to listen to the news or stories of the world at war or of mystery and intrigue, our imaginations still active as with our minds eye we still had to create the images of people, places and things that we had no firm knowledge of, or belief that we could ever see. Still challenged by the media that fueled our souls by leaving us wanting and hungry. As history shows us, technology allowed us to become intellectually lazy, as again, invisible waves brought pictures to us of places we would never go, to see things we could never see, save for the images that now confronted our senses, first in black and white, then in colour.
The golden age of that technologies advance brought us presidential debates, the Cuban missile crisis, assassinations and the first step on the moon. Respected veterans of that by gone age like Cronkite, I can only imagine what they would think, as now, from the cradle of civilization, in stark contrast to an age of moderately objective truth I now see Babylon falling again brought to me by talking heads that talk a lot but don’t seem to be using their heads.
Brokaw, speaks of death, destruction and terror, Arnett of failed war plans, Mansbridge of suicide bombers and Entertainment Tonight of embedded reporters fired for not following the rules.
What is the story? Is it any of these? Or all? Or none – Was Pandora’s box opened when we gave our intellectual ability to services whose only job is to keep us dumbfounded and staring at the screen, why you might ask; so GE, GM, NIKE and McDonalds can sell me just one more, anything, as long as I watch and consume.

Dropping the Other shoe
The other shoe has to drop, but it seems maybe an end is in sight, the plight of those in the Middle East, some looking for a homeland, all concerned with peace. Yet, are they really? Its often said that actions speak louder than words and all I can hear is the consistent ringing of my ears from the continuing bombardment perpetrated by fanatics, not just of the religious persuasion either. I can see terror lashing out at the soul while ravaging the body, blood stained streets, cleaned by the same street sweepers that clean the streets that I walk. Morosely confronted by the thought of what cleaning solution, what mixture removes blood from cement, or brick and curious as to whether that same solution can cleanse the soul?
In that same region, home to the birthplace of three religions, the cradle of civilization, the attention of the global nation is transfixed by what might happen next. We stand on guard like idiot savants watching the news mistaking sounds bites for truth! Truth?
Whose truth and at whose expense? Where great kings and queens used to come together, where once great empires stood, hanging gardens and entire civilizations knowledge weighed heavily on the hearts and minds of men who had to balance their desire for power with the will of invading armies. Armies whose appetite for destruction included turning back the hands of time by pilfering, then looting, then burning and destroying this history, tradition and cultural awareness to replace it with, well, their own and where the people would not go willingly, or quiet enough for the powers that be, THEY were eradicated, simply wiped from the face of the earth.
Times have changed indeed, or have they?
People in search of a homeland, people in search of self, people in search of meaning and people in search of wealth. Oh sure, times have changed, but PEOPLE remain the SAME, playing still an age old game. It is as old as time and still people in search of illusive truth justify the quelling of the sprit of youth.
For with the innocence of youth the spirit can feel searching for answers that somehow is real and here I am. Contemplating far off lands and the wishes of men with best laid plans. Like pipe lines and oil for societies rich yet entirely poor I think that’s why we still know war.
Like lions and tigers and bears we fight for riches without despair. With nary a care for our time and space we’re confronted by images surely in poor taste, ours! With all the elegance and class that money can buy we drive our vehicles while people do die.
At our expense and in our place the other shoe now falls and I wonder is any are aware at all. We’re killing ourselves one barrel at a time, drunk on oil as if it were wine. Deposing tyrants where once civilizations story was told, where aqueducts and math, the science of thought and religion did unfold.
Not today, nor tomorrow or yesterdays sorrow unchain us from our past and the revolution coming most surely must last. Go get your oil and effect regime change but realize this its us and our basic instinct that remains the same.

The Look of Love
Even from the opposite side of the room,
wearing your brilliant costume from a day gone by,
the hippie heart dressed in hippie garb,
you absolutely shine.
Your smile lighting up this dimly lit basement
and I amused as no matter where you are I feel the presence of your spirit.
I often comment on your spirit rare as fodder that the masses enjoy.
An opiate of emotional surrender as I surely do,
each and every time I look at you,
think of you,
become aware of you –
As by divine plan this love has landed complete.
With ultimate splendour and an amazing feeling inside
I’ve become aware that I no longer must hide
but instead shine bright through words that only you can inspire,
all from the other side of the room,
or universe,
for your shine travels at the speed of light.

My Prayer tonight...
Closing my eyes I feel history rush past me in a way it never has before,
the last century of progress and advance at the untold cost of millions of lives.
The quiet truth that seems to elude the lips of the men and women
chosen by popular opinion to lead us into the future.
Revolutions,
many of different style and cause,
leading to the establishment of new worlds –
2 world wars,
several communist revolutions,
hot wars of containment to perpetuate the cold war of superpowers –
Puppets to the masters whose strings are nuclear arsenals so I wonder now –
In this war,
whose finger is one the button.
As people die these words leave this pen
my sadness is that history has not been our teacher
and thus our future is nothing but a story already told
with different characters and numbers that seems eerily familiar.
Peace on earth my prayers this night.

Muse (ings)
If you were a trumpet,
I’d have to be Louis,
or Diz,
or Miles,
A sax
perhaps Byrd
or Coltrane,
A piano
lets say Liberace,
Borge
or even Elton John.
The guitar,
perhaps Santana
or Slash,
Dave Matthews
or Emmit Ray,
perhaps if I might be so bold Emmit Brown or was it Ray,
nonetheless I’m sure this picture has been painted.
Like all those greats and all in between you called out to me from across the universe
and I had no choice but to listen –
So with my lips abuzz I will blow,
with my fingers I will pluck or tickle,
for you truly are the instrument of all my dreams
from which the most beautiful sounds of creativity flow.
You are my MUSE!

What do you think?
Is our time really that unique, save our relative access to information and freedoms? In this time of war, one of few in my lifetime, I would like to explore this very thought. With history as our guide it becomes crystal clear that our system has lied, cheated and stole, not just from our wallets; The likes of IBM, JVC and Ford, but no more of this the stories old. Our souls, more important, the swindle is clear, with our votes for puppets with invisible strings the devil offered us masters of industry to champion our cause. I don’t mind being robbed as long as its honest and by thugs down the street, but in Canada its thugs in pressed shirts and ties on the street – Cronies and old boys willing to hide in the shadows while we’re all led to the gallows; Hung, by our own ignorance and apathy.
So is our time, this time, historically unique? What do you think?
With a birdie whispering in my ear as a favour to the devil a clear picture is painted every bit as important as Egyptian hieroglyphs.
A long time ago in a land not so far away men who craved power and lacked principle unlocked a secret before unknown or ignored from which this current history, our history began to unfold; If you’ll sit for a moment the story of our undoing will be told.
In rooms without electricity, carved out of rock men figured subjugation and hatched a sinister plot. By joining forces in dim rooms lit by flame a new game emerged; Risk management its name. To control the hearts of the masses faith became a toy where these arrogant men believed that God could be played a fool. The devil agreed and massaged their pride taught them divine right as the population tried.
So with faith and a leader chosen by divine right the heels of the chosen one clicked in delight. If their hearts could not be won the devil suggested that chains would well do so slavery started and prisons soon grew.
So with might over right the devil and his friends, divine masters of fright our system began almost over night. Religion, man made, leaders so too, lets forward a few years to an idea not new, just practices by devils decree lets all realize an oxford degree, in truth.
So might and religion made quite a team and unspeakable horrors in the name of God became seen. By divine right and the power of the tools of war, education became far more important to score.
Thus by Royal decree and supposed divine right together great minds imposed theoretical slight. Control information and access to it. The devil whispered aloud as this almost blew it. But with his help Oxford got through it.

Be Real... Be a Child
Please, if you will,
for a moment could you strip down all the things you know,
act as a child with wonder and delight
and let these words inform your soul
where the true spirit of understanding begins.
Remove the distractions from around you,
close your eyes and open your mind,
relieve the blockage of societal half truth
and return for a moment to self:
Your pure self!
No easy feat to be sure
but with courage and a will as strong as steel
the explanation becomes plain.
Heed this attached warning;
Become comfortable with in your own skin,
life is not a dress rehearsal
and the sooner you realize this the better your life will be.
In the search for self you will begin to see apparent discrepancies
between the person you perceive and the person you really are.
Again,
strip down the emotional and intellectual barriers,
refuse to allow your perceived self to be your filter,
instead embrace your inner child.
The world becomes clear
when through self actualization you overcome the illusions of consumption,
the necessity for more.
The ambition of your new self reveals a new contract for being.
Signed, sealed and delivered
let your soul take flight through the management of distraction,
keep aware of those around you,
television, movies and radio, magazines and books,
never letting them act as the spiritual markdown that they so desire.
Realize fully that all those medium are filled with personnel whose only purpose includes the immediate sale, final, of all you truly are:
Be real.
Remain a child inside.
Ask questions,
find answers –
Live,
love,
BE!

My 31 (and then some)
With an insatiable appetite for life I am the lover that time has given a fantastic gift; A love, my love, the only one for me. For from the pit of my stomach I can hear the orchestra playing the finest symphony of a love filled with feelings of butterflies, fluttering freely and bees buzzing as I have been stung by you. On the edge of my seat awaiting the arrival of my lover these words I do humbly write, provided in a holding area, almost on a whim. Although, in this passion ceaseless I am warmed by the seamless precision of your mind, your body and soul, yet so few could understand, truly, that where your beauty of body stupefies it is in your soul that the image of love is truly magnificent. Whether sipping on Mojitos or watching the TV there is nothing in this tremendous gift that we share which is monotonous, for with you the every day is my every thing – We traverse space and time with the amazing awareness of an artistry that mastered the angels and truly inspired this plan divine. God, in all majesty revealed the powerfully luscious and vibrant in every kiss we share; from the beginning until the end, we shine with a glory that God intended.
As surely as Eve gave Adam an apple we have sampled the wisdom of experience learning to repel the many snakes that try to lead us astray. But this path, marked with petals of the rose and Angels winged glorious in flight although unknown to us in its entirety becomes more through our acceptance and awareness of it.
Warm and fuzzy inside, I can now understand the haze of the fluffy years that brought me right to you, my lover evermore!

Do you think...?
Do you think when Einstein discovered his atomic secret he dropped to his knees, raised his eyes to the heavens above and asked why me?
Do you think he sat there for hours on end praying for absolution?
Perhaps that he picked up the dice at that moment and realized that God wasn’t playing with the universe?
Do you think he toiled with the idea of destroying his theory, his proofs and all his notes?
Do you think he looked at his books and wondered what colour smoke the fire would be if he just threw his books in and erased from this earth the horror he must have known he’d just unmasked?
Do you think that in the joy of discovery he shed a tear that stained like blood?
Do you think he even knew what he had done?
Do you think he was torn between the progress of humanity and the death of a planet?
Do you think his shooting star was more like an intellectual Hiroshima because he knew the vulgarity of the human mind?
I don’t know either.

October 29th, 2004 - Also Appropriate
My father said in a drunken rage a while back that he hated me. A statement that stung then and stings now. My father has not been an easy man to love, but I still do and always will. He is my father. HOWEVER, there are moments in life where we have to consider things we didn’t ever want to.
I have not been the perfect son but I’ve always tried to be there for him. Yesterday he sent me a third email, on a non-related matter and apologized again for his actions.
Fine.
HOWEVER, through his own actions he has caused my Mother, Brothers and Sisters and myself untold and unspoken pain.
He is a man (as am I) and must be accountable for his actions and to date I have not seen that. This causes no small measure of pain for me.
I’ve ALWAYS believed in him, even when others have not.
I have ALWAYS supported him, even when others have not.
It’s sad, confusing, heartbreaking and difficult.

Children,
I wrote you yesterday as well - I guess I have a lot to say to you. As always I love you and you should know I always will. I love you Char! Most people would think it's foolish to write to you like this, but hey, they're not me.
Your Mom and I got into a tizzy last night,
Partially because of her extreme fatigue and partially because of me.
When your Mom and I first met I was not the man I am today.
Because of her strength, sacrifice, conviction and determination,
I have become a better man.
She has taught me the meaning of responsibility in life,
And relationship,
And here’s a shocker, something I haven't been,
the most responsible.
Last week your Mom and I got into a car accident in Delia.
Delia is your Mom's 1989 Red Cabriolet Convertible.
Fortunately no one but Delia was hurt.
Well, maybe a little of my pride,
but mainly Delia.
Currently, as for the past few years,
your Mom is a working actress;
HARD WORKING!
She often wakes up before the sunrise and goes to a job she loves.
Although you all know I'm a writer, today I am a floorwalker.
I hate it but responsibility says I, like your Mom,
have to work.
SO I DO!
I've been thinking about you a lot in recent days.
Trying to figure out how to best make sure,
that you all live up to your,
RESPONSIBILITIES.
Your Mom always has and always will.
I just wanted to let you know...
I love you all.
I love you Char.
Always,
(SDM) Dad

This is the WORLD WE LIVE IN
This world,
the times we live in,
are like times we’ve known before,
not personally as we haven’t figured out space and time.
Today is the greatest day and ever more it will be as today is here NOW –
Today!
We have at our disposal all the collected knowledge of our species
and while we may not yet know how to use it someday we will.
As such,
with the gift of time we must be cautious in the use of the many gifts we have.
In spite of a unifying sagacity we must always embrace the pursuit of more.
Accept that the struggle for understanding will eventually lead to an inner peace
that will manifest itself outwardly
instantly creating in that realization
the world that dreamers have long dreamt of.
In that moment,
the rhyme and reason,
rhythm, harmony and melody of greatly admired musical movements
will take on new meaning as we celebrate our spiritual rebirth.
Nothing, save the eventual success of a true and lasting peace will ever exonerate our historical failures:
Death,
destruction,
terror and war.
Yet should we find that higher state of being,
the relative awareness of a new reality shaped by the horrors of history,
we will discover the divine plan!
Looking to the sky of blue learning about ourselves
and our place in this universe everything takes on new meaning
through the acquisition of self.
Our past replete with invisible scars
from the extensive beating of our ancestors
with the leather whips of Christian, Jew and Muslim conquerors
and our acceptance of it will remove the cuffs,
histories shackles as we seek truth.
We are not chained to our past by necessity
and we are not doomed to repeat it.
Yet the future is tempered by it
and as long as we unmask our veiled attempts at sugar coating our past failures
in the search for a better world we will ultimately succeed in healing age old wounds.
Yet that path is the road less taken.
Accept truth,
the lessons of history and that we create our future
and instantly the course of history blazes a heretofore unseen trail.
In our efforts to reveal honestly our failures
we no longer need to be concealing the very real feelings we are feeling.
Read more;
Listen more,
help an old lady cross the street.
Smile often and brightly and allow your soul to shine.
Be real,
first to yourself, then to those around you,
act accordingly as that is what true freedom is –
Being real!
The strength and promise of our species,
all one humanity,
lay in rediscovering the value and benefit of positive self love
which will rear its head in every moment
incredibly changing the scope of our history:
Permanently promising peace.

63rd Anniversary of D- Day
To all those that gave their lives in the ultimate sacrifice so that tyranny did not rule the day I remember you.
To all those that returned home broken never to recover I wish I could give you a hug and make it all okay.
To all those that returned home and made it their mission to ensure the horror would not be repeated I celebrate you.
To all those that suffered indignity, iniquity and endless suffering I wish I could turn back the hands of time and make it all okay, in the absence of that ability let me make a solemn promise; I WILL NEVER FORGET and I WILL LAY DOWN MY LIFE trying to make this world a better place.
To all those reading this are you aware of the sacrifice,
are you aware of the price,
are you aware of what happened then that shaped today?
Take a moment to reflect, say a prayer, be silent and then realize just how fortunate we are that the greatest generation paid the price for freedom.
Thank you will never be enough, but from the bottom of my heart, veterans and the families which too sacrificed; thank you.
THANK YOU!

Understanding Freedom
This morning I awoke to the moderately annoying buzz of my digital alarm clock, I can’t even tell you who makes it, but that’s okay, those that made it couldn’t tell me from a hole in the wall either. But that’s neither here nor there. So, after hitting the snooze a couple of times I sleepily crawled from my bed to make a delicious cup of coffee for me and my baby, to be honest she started it, I just poured the boiling water. As she got ready for work I added the cream and sugar to our travel mugs and came back to our room. After a few moments and a couple of sips I went to the car, started it, allowing it to warm up so that when she emerged the cool chill of the early spring morning would not reach her bones. So I drove her to work and returned home, turned on the TV and enjoyed more coffee. This sounds like a million peoples day, normal by collective agreement.
But why?
Freedom: The choice to decide the course of my own actions. The ability and right to choose and what is the price of my freedom and ostensibly yours as well – Nothing! My freedom and yours comes at what price, the purchase of an alarm clock, coffee or a car – No we, from the comfort of our homes are writing cheques from accounts that were put in our trust. Our freedom shows completely that we are trust fund babies with silver spoons in our mouths. That’s right, trust fund babies with no regard for the actual price of things – especially freedom.
In North America and indeed all places where the liberty bell of freedom rings we enjoy benefits we ourselves didn’t earn. Perhaps our parents or grandparents, cut from a different cloth, truly earned their freedom and it did have a price – A large one.
World War II blatantly exposed the horrible possibilities of power unchecked and unopposed. It opened the eyes of generations to the brutal inhuman potential of angry evil men. Yet in spite of this my freedom and yours too was won on battlefields where blood was like a tsunami and bodies were stacked hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands, anonymously to rid the world of sheer terror. Oh, my freedom certainly came at a price, but not mine, or yours, save the loss of loved ones that we never knew.
So as you enjoy the full and wonderful benefits of freedom take account of your actions to ensure that those that gave their lives so we could have ours – paid the ultimate price – did not, did not write a cheque that will bounce because of our attitudinal laxity toward freedom.
